Cool books:
Kitson, Clare. ‘Yuri Norstein and Tale of Tales: An Animator's Journey.’ UK: John Libbey Publishing, Sept. 2005: Book on the Russian master Yuri Norstein. Comes with an accompanying DVD, 'The Complete Works of Yuri Norstein' that features a documentary. Highly recommended as it is the only detailed resource on him I have ever found.
Furniss, Maureen. ‘Art in Motion – Animation Aesthetics.’ Australia: John Libbey & Co., 1998: Highly valued encyclopedic book on everything to do with animation.
‘Art & Animation.’ London: Academy Group, 1997: Good compilation of key modern animators. Features nice interview with Terry Gilliam of Monty Python fame, and an interesting feature on Japanese anime master Hayao Miyazaki.
Starr, Cecile. ‘Experimental Animation.’ New York: Van Norstrand Reinhold Company, 1976: Lovely old book filled with essential, now hard to find, information on old-school techniques. Has good features on Caroline Leaf, Norman McLaren and Lotte Reiniger.
Thompson, Frank. ‘Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas – The Film, The Art, The Vision.’ UK: Boxtree Ltd., 1994: Book that accompanies the film. Great for those interested in three-dimensional techniques.
Blumenthal, Eileen. 'Puppetry, A World History.' NY: Harry Abrams, 2005: Wonderfully illustrated and fascinating history of puppets.
